The phone itself is made out of metal and glass, while its display sports extremely thin bezels, and display corners are rounded. Previously, there have been numerous leaks and rumors about the smartphone along with speculated features and specifications. While both the variants come with the same design, only the flagship edition comes with pop-up selfie camera and in-display fingerprint scanner. With features like in-display fingerprint sensor, retractable selfie camera and "screen soundcasting technology" wherein the screen vibrates to create sound, the smartphone became the talk of town. It's called the Vivo Nex, and not only is it very close to the Apex we swooned over at MWC, it's also like nothing else we've seen come out this year - and that makes it very exciting. The device comes in two variants - Snapdragon 710-powered Vivo NEX and Snapdragon 845-powered Vivo NEX Flagship Edition (a.k.a Vivo NEX S).
Snapdragon 845 is built-in along with 8GB of RAM and you have a choice of 128GB or 256GB of storage. However, not much details about the RAM and storage configuration for the other variant - NEX A is available right now.
Vivo Nex a massive 6.59-inches full HD+ (2316x1080) Super AMOLED display with 19.3:9 ratio and 91.24 percent screen-to-body ratio. The top-end NEX variant, on the other hand, has been listed online by Chinese e-commerce firm Suning.com. The Vivo NEX is speculated to pack a 4,000 mAh battery. There's no word yet about the launch of these smartphones outside of China. The device also has a dual rear camera setup with 12+5 MP sensor with f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization.
The Vivo Nex will initially launch in China for 4498 yuan (~$700) for the 128GB version and 4498 (~$780) for the top of the line, 256GB model.
Talking about the price, Vivo NEX might cost around CNY 6,998 (around Rs 73,000). Because of nearly no bezels, the smartphone has a pop-up camera that works as the front camera. Other local manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei are also using the in-display fingerprint scanning technology on their latest high-end devices, but we are yet to see it present on a widely-available device, even moreso on one that could be bought in the United States of A. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.0 on top. As far as rear-facing cameras are concerned, you'll be able to choose between Slow Motion, AI HDR, Live Photo, Face Beauty, Portrait Bokeh, Panorama, AI Photo Composition, Time Lapse, while AR stickers and AI filters are also a part of the offering.
US-based Synaptics, who partnered with Vivo on the sensor, claims its system is twice as fast as 3D facial recognition technology.
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the Vivo NEX? The pop-up camera automatically rises up when you open the camera app.
The Vivo NEX phones were launched in Diamond Black and Red color options. Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB 2.0 port, and OTG support. Both the phones are set to go on sale in China from June 23. Share us your views by posting your comments below.
