IOS 12 Speed Tests Show Increased Performance on iPhone 5s and 8

As part of the new iOS 12 update, which will be rolled out later this year, Apple users will gain access to a feature called "Screen Time", allowing them to set daily limit for apps that offer notifications and nudges.

Apple is holding its yearly Worldwide Developer's Conference, or WWDC, which means we get a preview of its upcoming software, including iOS 12, the new Apple Watch OS, and more. Apple is adding features to help users spend less time staring at their devices if they'd like.

Apple also announced that it has worked with Pixar to create a new AR file format, called USDZ, which makes it much easier to share across the iOS ecosystem. The company has said it wants to help users develop healthier relationships with its flagship product.

Reports suggest that Apple will also expand the functionality of the iPhone X's facial recognition system, which now only serves to unlock the phone and allow mobile payments.

The new Screen Time feature monitors the amount of time a user spends on a specific app, a category of apps and individual websites, plus the number of notifications received and total hands-on time.

They can also set time limits on apps, to display an alert when the limit is reached.

"Turns out "like" buttons and "comment" fields can be used to track you, so this year we are shutting that down", Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi told a standing-room crowd of some 6,000 developers at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in the heart of Silicon Valley.

New features will help protect users' anonymity online.

Cook pointed out that all that Apple did in its operating system was integrate the option to share a photo directly to Facebook via iOS, without the user having to open the social network's app. Together, the California teachers' pension fund and the Jana Partners investment group own more than $2 billion in Apple stock. But Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, said Apple still has a lot of work to do to close the cap with Amazon and Google. Most of it is deeply wonky stuff, like Apple's new augmented reality features which will allow you to precisely measure things or deep learning tech that figures out which photos you and your friend took at the same party. Apps that support Siri Shortcuts will include a little button that says "add to Siri", much as apps can now add tickets or virtual cards to Apple Wallet.

Until Monday, Apple had let developers tap Siri for voice control in only a handful of apps such as PayPal and Uber.
