CHOP ranks high on best children's hospitals list

Children's ranked first in three of 10 specialty areas - neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and nephrology. "We have built one of the most prestigious pediatric hospitals in the country with outcomes consistently among the best in the nation", said Mike Gutzeit, MD, chief medical and safety officer, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

According to a news release, CHW has more than 15 specialty outpatient clinics located throughout southeastern Wisconsin and the Fox Valley that provide local care for kids from birth to young adulthood.

For more than 130 years, St. Louis Children's Hospital has provided exceptional care for children in all 50 states and 80 countries around the world. "Dr. [Brian] Clark was incredible, with a very comforting demeanor".

Two pediatric specialties - nephrology and orthopaedics - placed in the top 20 nationally, and six others earned spots in the top 50: neurology/neurosurgery, gastroenterology, cancer, urology, cardiology and neonatology. Last year, Children's National just cracked the top 10, as the 10th-best pediatric care center in the U.S. The year before, it didn't make the cut. The rankings offer families an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance. "Children with life-threatening or rare conditions need the level of quality care that these hospitals deliver day after day".

U.S. News & World Report has published its 12th annual ranking of children's hospitals.

"As a pediatric teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine, the medical innovations our team is constantly working on attract families from around the world to the hospital", says Gary Silverman, MD, PhD, pediatrician-in-chief at Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

In this year's list, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia swapped places coming in second and third, respectively.
