Children's ranked first in three of 10 specialty areas - neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and nephrology. According to a news release, CHW has more than 15 specialty outpatient clinics located throughout southeastern Wisconsin and the Fox Valley that provide local care for kids from birth to young adulthood.

Two pediatric specialties - nephrology and orthopaedics - placed in the top 20 nationally, and six others earned spots in the top 50: neurology/neurosurgery, gastroenterology, cancer, urology, cardiology and neonatology. Last year, Children's National just cracked the top 10, as the 10th-best pediatric care center in the U.S. The year before, it didn't make the cut. The rankings offer families an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance. "Children with life-threatening or rare conditions need the level of quality care that these hospitals deliver day after day".
U.S. News & World Report has published its 12th annual ranking of children's hospitals.

In this year's list, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia swapped places coming in second and third, respectively.
