Netflix Orders Horror Anthology Series from Guillermo Del Toro

Fresh off adding "Oscar winner" to his résumé, Guillermo del Toro is lending his phantasmagorical imagination to Netflix for the streaming giant's first ever horror series.

Fresh off winning an Oscar for his critically acclaimed The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro appears to be heading into streaming next. I suspect this will be pitched at a slightly older audience, though.

Anthology series are becoming the law of the television landscape but there aren't many in the horror vein yet. An episode count and premiere date for the drama remain unclear. Along with creating the show, Del Toro will write and direct select episodes as well as executive produce.

With this first live-action series, del Toro and Netflix extend their collaboration, which began with the award-winning animated series "Trollhunters", that animated adventure is set to return with all-new episodes on May 25th.

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro has already made the greatest film of all time. The Shape of Water producer J. Miles Dale and Gary Ungar will serve as executive producers for the series. Del Toro is a man who enjoys taking horror and infusing it with history, elegance, and a touch of Old Hollywood.

Aside from that brilliant sequel, he also made Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, The Devil's Backbone, Cronos and the Hellboy movies. Del Toro is also said to be choosing a team of top horror writers and filmmakers to bring his stories to the screen.
