Manhattan District Attorney Is Investigating Eric Schneiderman Allegations

Schneiderman's office released a statement from his former wife, Jennifer Cunningham, who said she had known him "for almost 35 years as a husband, father and friend".

Long Island prosecutors say they are also investigating allegations of abuse by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

A few hours after The New Yorker published the story yesterday, he announced he would leave office "at the close of business" Tuesday.

Barish and Selvaratnamsaid alleged that Schneiderman choked and hit them repeatedly to the point where they both needed medical treatment.

Planned Parenthood Action, the political arm of the nation's largest abortion provider, told White House advisor Kellyanne Conway to delete her Twitter account Monday after she called out disgraced New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over horrific abuse allegations.

When Harvey Weinstein was exposed, it was Eric Schneiderman, New York's attorney general who sued Weinstein's company for "pervasive sexual harassment".

While Trump hadn't commented on Schneiderman's resignation as of Tuesday morning, Conway wasn't the only vocal member of the president's staff. Donald Trump Jr. was also quick to dig into Schneiderman in a series of tweets. This has been under scrutiny by many in its hypocrisy after the report of his own assault against women came to light.

Accused Schneiderman had threatened the victims to kill them in case the latter complained against him.

The women accusing Schneiderman said seeing him speak out on these issues was part of what prompted them to come forward.

In a statement before his resignation, he acknowledged that "in the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity", but added, "I have not assaulted anyone".

Update: Underwood said in a statement, "I am honored to serve the people of NY as acting Attorney General".

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had called for Schneiderman's resignation earlier Monday.

Barbara Underwood will step in as acting attorney general. She was an assistant district attorney in New York County (Manhattan), chief of appeals and counsel to the district attorney in Brooklyn and senior executive assistant district attorney for legal affairs in Queens County. "They should have the opportunity to tell a district attorney the facts and circumstances", he said. I have not assaulted anyone.

"We could rarely have sex without him beating me", she said.

Schneiderman said the allegations, which he strongly contests, make it impossible to continue as the state's leading law enforcement officer.
