Golden Knights' Tatar may return to lineup

We got that 2-0 lead and it was a different game for us. He would be a wealthier man if he went to, well, Vegas to play his hunch like Pete Rose.

"You can't lose your first two games (of a series) in the playoffs, especially against a team like that", Marchessault said after today's morning skate. It will be a more physical game and will be more contested in the 10-foot area [around the net].

"If you're going to talk out there in the media that you have to be better, I think you need to lead by example, " he said.

Yet, prepare as they may, there was little magic the Jets had up their sleeve to solve it. "We were just a bunch of hockey players that wanted to find a home, and we did".

They didn't handle it well.

In between, Schmidt did it all Monday night to help the Vegas Golden Knights seize home-ice advantage in the Western Conference final by earning a Winnipeg split with a 3-1 Game 2 victory to at least temporarily pour some "whiteout" on the Jets' early parade route plans.

Steven Stamkos trying to win his first cup, same for Alexander Ovechkin or the Cinderella stories of the Winnipeg Jets or Vegas Golden Knights.

But just 1:28 later, the Golden Knights took advantage of another Winnipeg mistake.

"We have tons of confidence in this locker room", Haula said.

The lesson is, continue to bet against the Knights at your own peril. His two best saves came with the Jets on a power play to start the third period and his team leading 2-0, first off Patrik Laine and then off Mark Scheifele on a great re-direction of a Dustin Byfuglien shot-pass.

"We were chasing the game again".

The Golden Knights used the same recipe that the Predators used to win in Bell MTS Place: Score early, build a 2-0 lead through two periods and hold off the high-scoring Jets offense the rest of the way.

Marchessault had two goals in his team's 3-1 victory.

"We had a week off, too", Fleury said. They're a good team.

That isn't a recipe for success. "We're going to try to bring the same effort". Many were one and done.

"There was about 57 minutes of that game that were good for us", Wheeler said. Fleury was peppered with shots and stopped five risky ones in the first three minutes. They could have scored four goals in three minutes ... They're going to feed off that.

The Jets entered the night with 37 home victories, six shy of the National Hockey League record for most combined home wins in a season.

To make it even worse, between the three of them they did not record a single shot on goal. But their Stanley Cup aspirations may be determined by how they react to this latest blow.

Game 3 on Tuesday night in Washington can't come soon enough for the Lightning, who are in a historically hard spot after losing twice at home to open the series. We like where it was in the Nashville series.

"I don't think anybody is panicking, " Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba said. We've been here before.
