Today marks the 48th Earth day

Earth Day has become a global celebration now recognized in more than 193 countries, with events held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. This year's global theme is "End Plastic Pollution".

Twitterati from all across the globe is cherishing the mother Earth and emphasizing the plastic pollution free environment.

Earth Day Columbus is the largest volunteer-led Earth Day service project in the U.S. The week-long event leading up to Earth Day is organized by Green Columbus, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living in central OH and around the world.

"Plastic pollution is poisoning our oceans and land, injuring marine life, and affecting our health", he said.

"Unless we take these steps, the problem is not going away says Dr Cristiana Paşca Palmer, the Executive Secretary of The UN Convention On Biological Diversity in a message". He said that the consequences for economies and people will be profound.

We recently saw the "plasticberg" of garbage that drifted into parts of our pristine Caribbean Sea, underscoring the plastic pollution that already spoils some of our beaches.

This 49th Earth Day focuses on ending plastic pollution, including the estimated 480 billion or more plastic bottles sold worldwide every year.

According to him, it is presently developing a national policy on Plastic Waste Management.

"Thus as we commemorate this day, the EMA would like to issue an urgent appeal to the national community to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste, especially in the area of plastics", the Association said. Eventually, the dilemma of ground conservation and also fresh environment has been brought in to the federal program.

"The other locations, include Bola Jari in Gombe State and Leda Jari in Kano State", the minister said.
