Developed by a startup called Orion Span, the craft will be launched in the space in late 2021 and to welcome its guests in 2022.
He explained: "Aurora Station is incredibly versatile and has multiple uses beyond serving as a hotel".
Sounds awesome, right? But wait, it would cost a whopping Rs 61,74,52,500 ($9.5 million) per person to stay at Aurora Station.
What's being billed as the world's first luxury space hotel, Aurora Station, was announced Thursday at the Space 2.0 Summit in San Jose, California.
The company, in future, also plans to sell condos in space.
Aurora Station will be equipped for a remarkable Astronaut Experience that can be had nowhere else in the known universe: grow food in space, dive into our in-space Holodeck, participate in real space research, or enjoy views that will blow your mind. The training regimen to prepare space travelers, which usually takes 24 months, has also been streamlined to just three months, further lowering the cost. It will have dimensions of 13.3 by 4.3 metres, the total volume will be about 160 cubic meters.
The firm plans to sell space condos too
The ISS, meanwhile, is 357 feet (109 m) long and has an internal pressurized volume of 32,333 cubic feet (916 cubic m).
The space station is created to be a luxurious stay, with high speed wireless internet to keep in contact with friends and family, and bedding and cloth switched out on every flight. Private Outpost will be in orbit at an altitude of 320 kilometers, or slightly lower than the ISS. "Like any thriving community, we designed Aurora Station to grow and respond to market needs". Most of the guests will probably be private space tourists, at least initially, but Orion Span will be available to a variety of customers, including government space agencies, he added.
"Our long-term vision is to sell actual space in those new modules", Bunger told the website.
And the space hotel will get bigger over time, if everything goes according to plan. "So, either for living or subleasing, that's the future vision here - to create a long-term, sustainable human habitation in LEO [low Earth orbit]".
Axiom Space, a Texas-based company with a former International Space Station manager at the helm, has plans to put a commercial space station in orbit by 2024. To reserve your place aboard Aurora Station, you can pay a (fully refundable) $80,000 deposit now.
The open questions surrounding Orion Span have to do with funding and logistics. Folks who fly up will undergo a three-month training program, the last portion of which will occur aboard the space hotel itself, Bunger said.
