EPL: Liverpool pick point at Everton

Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke were given rare starts up front but both looked rusty, with the latter failing to take either of two early chances.

Speaking after his side's 0-0 draw at Everton, in which he produced a smart save to tip Yannick Bolasie's curling shot around the post, Karius gave his thoughts on the game and on his future.

"I don't feel like I am on trial".

"We have now a problem to find players for Saturday, and everyone's telling us it's the most important game of the year, and that's quite hard", said Klopp.

Calvert-Lewin had one further chance before full-time, coming in off the left-hand side but failing to hit the target, settling the game at a point a piece for each side.

Ings was starting a league match for the first time since Klopp took charge two-and-a-half years ago, having fought back from two cruciate knee ligament injuries, while Solanke was making only his fourth league start for the club. "If I keep a clean sheet, I am happy".

But the substitutions had little impact and as the game entered the final five minutes, Everton sensed they may have an opportunity to snatch victory. Ings' last start - and goal - for Liverpool came in this fixture back in October 2015.

There have been many critics of Sam Allardyce from the Everton faithful this season, and this game won't have done much to help matters.

Nathaniel Clyne makes his first senior appearance of the campaign at right-back, while Ragnar Klavan is a surprise inclusion on the left. After nine months, playing that game just shows his natural quality in that position.

Liverpool started with Ragnar Klavan out of position at left-back, yet the Icelandic worldwide was barely tested throughout the contest. It feels good. The centre-halves were strong until we stopped playing football, then it was hard.

"It was a good performance, not brilliant", the Liverpool manager told his postmatch news conference. Come here, play football, get a result, don't get involved in any fights or whatever.
