CWG: Indian men's hockey team held by last-gasp Pakistan

India got to a 1-0 lead after the mixed doubles duo of Satwik and Ashwini overcame a stiff challenge from Yong Kai Terry Hee and Jia Ying Crystal Wong to win 22-20, 21-18 in a 42-minute contest.

On Sunday, M C Mary Kom will open her campaign and a win will assure her of a medal in her debut appearance at the Games. "If you think too much, then it becomes complex", explained Bhaker as she analysed her brilliant performance. A Summer Youth Olympics silver medalist, Ragala started his route by attempting 147 kg in his first snatch.

SQUASHED - Tesni Evans of Wales beat top seed Laura Massaro to move into the Commonwealth Games women's squash semifinals against another English player, Sarah-Jane Perry.

The 25-year-old Sathish, the defending champion, lifted a total of 317kg (114kg+173kg) and was so ahead of competition that he forfeited his final clean and jerk lift.

In shooting, women's air pistol hopes will be on Heena Sidhu and teenager Manu Bhaker, in women's skeet (Saniya Shaikh, Maheshwari Chauhan) and men's 10m air rifle (Ravi Kumar, Deepak Kumar).

India now have four gold, a silver and a bronze in the event, leaving them fourth on the overall tally.

In the boxing ring, Mary Kom made the semi-finals with a sound thrashing of Scotland's Megan Gordon, her victory assuring the Indian boxing contingent of its first CWG medal at the ongoing edition.

Also advancing, but to the quarterfinal stage, was world championships bronze-medallist Vikas Krishan.

Venkat Rahul is now the sixth Indian to win a medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, after the likes of Mirabai Chanu (48kg) and Sanjita Chanu (53kg) had won their respective events in the first couple of days. They will be looking for a podium finish as this is their last event and also the last day of cycling.

But Ali Mubashar - in a repeat of yesterday's feat against India - converted a penalty corner just three minutes from time to help Pakistan manage a draw against the English side.

India will next face the winners of the second semifinal between England and Malaysia in the final on Monday.
