Blueprint recalls that there had been moves in the past by the former Senator to join the APC, but were resisted by some interests within the party.

Sheriff and Governor Kashim Shettima, who is the APC leader in Borno State, had parted ways for long. Gbemi Saraki among many others were seen at the party national secretariat apparently waiting to receive him.

The party disclosed this in a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi in Abuja on Thursday.

Former national chairman of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Sheriff, will on Thursday return to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

"We are aware of the well articulated plan and we are ready to defend any attempt towards destroying our party at the ward level and in any state - not just Borno".

"We are happy to welcome new members to our party, but membership cards are not issued at the Party National Secretariat".

It was. however, gathered that both parties nearly clash, but were prevailed upon by CP Kokumo, who later addressed the PDP supporters while an unidentified man also addressed the APC supporters, following which the crowd gradually dispersed. Sheriff as "a rumour".

Sheriff had earlier scheduled to formally join the party at the National Secretariat of the party as invitation has been sent out to the media for the event.

He said, "Yes, we have moved to the APC; I and former Governor Sheriff have left the PDP for the APC and there are reasons".

The APC deployed all the repressive apparatus to capture Bayelsa by hook or crook in 2016 but we deployed People's power to reelect Governor Seriake Dickson, a performing Governor, a visionary leader and leader of the party in the state.

According to sources that spoke to Daily Trust, Sheriff and Lawan recently met with President Muhammadu Buhari who directed the leadership of the APC to accept them into the party. Among the former PDP chieftains that defected to the APC were Senator Hope Uzodinma, Sen. Bernard Mela, Senator Taslim Folarin, Goodluck Ogbia, Ali Gulak, Hon. While receiving the new APC members into the fold, the SGF said: "From tonight, the narrative and trajectory of what will happen in 2019 has been defined". Therefore, you who have come today (yesterday) and those who form the party now have the same status. I believe that by virtue of the kind of persons you are, you will bring value to the APC.

"We are going to start the process of congresses and primaries in a couple of weeks and our constitution made it quite clear that the day you join, you become a full member".

"There is no better history we can learn from than what is happening today".

"We ask for only one thing, the enabling environment and equal participation which you had graciously approved", Mr. Uzodinma said.

He advised the defectors to ensure they formally register as members of the party at the ward level, assuring that they would be accorded same privileges as old members.
