US, South Korea plan resumption of military drills

The South Koreans said the postponement was part of an effort to reduce tensions with North Korea and help ensure a successful Olympics, while USA officials maintained the postponement was due to logistics and a need to "de-conflict" the exercise with the Olympic Games.

Following a historic summit between Seoul and Pyongyang in 2000, various Korean singers, including Cho Yong-pil, performed in the North.

A surprise invitation to President Donald Trump to meet with Kim was quickly accepted, and now diplomats have been traveling the world to discuss preparations for the summits.

A U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jet, bottom, landed at the Osan U.S. Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, Tuesday.

The announcement comes after Trump and Kim agreed to discuss denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula in the first face-to-face talks between a North Korean leader and a USA president.

The summit is set to take place at the end of April, in the border village of Panmunjom. These missiles have the potential to destroy North Korea's hardened long-range artillery sites near the Demilitarized Zone, according to a report by Defensenews. Last year, the Foal Eagle field training exercise began on March 1 for a two-month run, with the Key Resolve command-post war game held from March 14-24.

The drills are expected to be "at a scale similar to that of the previous years", the Pentagon added.

"These are low-key drills".

Choi said North Korea may respond by issuing a relatively mild diatribe but will likely avoid conducting weapons tests that could disrupt its recent outreach to Washington and Seoul. They also said that Kim "understands" that the joint U.S.

The timing and size of the annual maneuvers are especially sensitive this year because of heightened worry over the North's accelerated work last year on a nuclear-armed missile potentially capable of reaching the United States. -South Korean military exercises would continue this year.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said, "pressure is not a goal in itself, and that the objective of the EU is to help open the political path for a peaceful, negotiated solution of the North Korean nuclear issue".

A main sticking point in U.S. Earlier this month, it was made clear by North Korea through its mouth-piece, KCNA, that "if the USA finally holds joint military exercises while keeping sanctions", North Korea will "counter the United States by its own mode of counteraction and the U.S. will be made to own all responsibilities for the ensuing consequences".
