However, Nintendo released new hardware versions for many of their portable consoles within their first two years.
Nintendo has been doing a lot to make its latest console worth owning, and the library of games is steadily growing in the eShop every day. It began with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and soon spread to other games on the console. It is pretty incredible being able to play The Legend of Zelda on my big television at home but then being able to undock the system and continue my game on the go.
Many early adopters have seen their playtimes reduced to zero as if they were playing them for the first time.
August 2017 - One of the biggest third-party games of the year was Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. The game went on to receive a score of 97 on Metacritic, as well as numerous Game of the Year awards.
To close out 2017, Nintendo launched a sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles RPG series, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. But it seems unlikely that, when tomorrow rolls around and the Switch presumably begins noting our hourly playtime for Breath of the Wild, the activity log will reflect our true historical play data. This sprawling game offers players a deep battle system to master, giant worlds to explore and an endearing cast of characters to meet. In the past year, we have also seen companies like Ubisoft and Bethesda invest in the Switch more than any other Nintendo console to date.
UPDATE 1: Nintendo has confirmed that some Switch owners' play times are "displaying incorrectly" and that it will make a further announcement regarding the issue "in the near future".
We already know that the Switch takes a week before updating the user profile with the number of hours you've played a game for.
Looking ahead to the second year, many fun new things are in store.
