Players can see dinosaurs in their immediate vicinity on an in-game map and some of them will be tied to specific locations. It's all location-based to allow you to find and discover dinosaurs in the "real world" by exploring the world.
Fans of Universal's "Jurassic World" franchise will soon be able to stare face-to-face with the snarling dinos in a new smartphone game - and breed them to fight in battles with other players. Those who will go for it, an in-game incubator awaits them at the time of the game launch. There are plenty of rip-off style games out there, there's a Ghostbusters AR game in development, and even the creators of Pokemon Go are working on a Harry Potter AR game that uses a lot of the same elements.
Jurassic World Alive is being pitched as a map-based collect-'em-up à la Pokémon Go, though one key difference is that players don't necessarily need to leave the house to capture dinosaurs (an in-game drone can be dispatched to collect DNA for Muldoon-types hesitant to just stroll down the road). You can even train the dinosaurs and battle them with other players around the world.
The game will have over 100 dinosaurs available at launch but developer Ludia says that it will be regularly updated with more species, including special "hybrid" and "super hybrid" animals with presumably better stats and "more advanced capabilities". With the Jurassic Park brand now 28 years old and showing no signs of slowing down, Jurassic World Alive is a particularly clever move on Universal's side.
Users of the app will be able to explore their city or neighbourhood and find dinosaurs featured in the Jurassic World movie, as well as those from the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom film. The developer previously worked on 2012's Jurassic Park Builder and 2015's Jurassic World: The Game. "We are thrilled to once again work with Ludia and think this will be the biggest and most exciting game in the franchise yet!" Universal and Ludia have set up jurassicworldalive.com with more info and the ability for fans to pre-register.
