After missing out on star cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Richard Sherman [VIDEO], the #New England Patriots must set their sights on veteran cornerback #Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was recently released by the #New York Giants. Get the app and get the game.
This is not a surprise, because Rodgers-Cromartie's salary in 2018 is on the books for $6.48 million, with a salary cap hit of $8.5 million. If Rodgers-Cromartie does not accept the pay cut - the two sides are reportedly not close - he will be released. Prior to his release, the Giants had asked Rodgers-Cromartie to take a pay cut if he was to stay on for next season, but he declined.
He earned his second career Pro Bowl nod - first with the Giants - in 2015.
As a result, Rodgers-Cromartie had one of his least productive seasons in 2017 failed to record a single interception the entire year for just the second time in his 10-year National Football League career.
Rodgers-Cromartie has 30 career interceptions but had none in 2017 after matching his career high with six in 2016.
He then went to Philadelphia for two years, Denver for one before spending the last four seasons with the Giants.
Not only is Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie not making a position switch, there is a real chance he will not return for a fifth season with the Giants.
