Drew Brees and Saints agree on a new contract

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported several other "QB-needy" teams reached out to Condon to kick the tires on Brees. At this point in his career, Brees said his top priority is contending for a title. The deal includes about $27 million in guaranteed money, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.

Brees wanted to play for the Saints, the Saints want Brees to play for them and both sides should be invested in trying to win a Super Bowl in the remaining window of Brees career.

Brees, who turned 39 in January, passed for 4,334 yards and 23 touchdowns, with eight touchdowns, previous year as the Saints posted their most balanced offensive numbers in several seasons.

While it seems as if a return to New Orleans is inevitable, he hasn't signed a deal with the Saints just yet.

By the time Brees' new contract expires, he could very well be the NFL's all-time leader in yards and touchdowns passing. "I think we've got some guys that have a maturity level that's beyond their years and that also really showed a commitment to the way we do things with the Saints", Brees said. "And that's what we tried to do with the deal".

His short-term contract extension is his second with New Orleans after he signed a one-year, $24.25 million extension before the start of the 2016 season.

If the Vikings pursue Brees too much and he ends up signing with New Orleans again, they may miss out on Kirk Cousins. He joined Brett Favre and Petyon Manning in that exclusive club. During that span, he earned the reputation as being one of the top tight ends in the National Football League that saw him record in at least 85 receptions, 850 receiving yards, and at least nine touchdowns in four straight seasons.
