Cristiano Ronaldo reaches 50 hat-tricks in Girona win

After winning the Ballon d'Or, Cristiano Ronaldo was nailed on to also lift Portugal's Player of the Year award.

The five-time Ballon d'Or victor came in for criticism in the first half of the campaign after an underwhelming period that saw him net just four La Liga goals before the turn of the year.

Ronaldo has scored 79 goals in 147 games for Portugal during his worldwide career, and he'll captain his country at the World Cup, which Russian Federation will host between mid-June and mid-July.

On Monday it's claimed "Cristiano Ronaldo is very clear that Gareth Bale will not continue at Real Madrid next season", and he's not only decided that, but also that his replacement is Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

Ronaldo, having scored four against Girona on Sunday, now has 22 goals in La Liga, meaning he is an unanswered hat-trick away from drawing level with Barca's goalscoring wizard. "It's important for him and for us, too".

"Ronaldo is very important to us, he transmits an energy across the whole group". He has at least 25 league goals in nine consecutive seasons with Barcelona.

His current form is pretty ridiculous, scoring 21 goals in his last 11 games in all competitions, making him the most in-form player across Europe. It's also as many as eight games in a row that he has scored in on this run, and 17 goals during that time.

Ronaldo teed up Lucas Vazquez on the hour mark before completing his hat-trick, his 50th of professional career, four minutes later and adding a fourth in the stoppage time.

The 26-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season but will race against time to get fit for the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup in the summer.

In total, Ronaldo has scored 566 club goals.
