Winter Olympics: US figure skating pair competes with heavy hearts

While it was still late on February 13 back in America when the two took the ice, the Knierims took to the ice in the pairs short program early in the afternoon of February 14 in South Korea.

"Even here at the Games, it's no longer about me", she said.

Chris added that he whispered, "Great job and Happy Valentine's Day", which led to Alexa dropping this bomb: "I told him the only thing that would top this is having a child on Valentine's Day!". Out of medal contention after their 11th-place short program, they were urged on with spirited precision by the roughly 150 female members of the North Korean cheerleading squad.

Following their free skate at the Olympics, the couple discussed the role their faith played in returning to the ice.

The next time you have a "domestic" with your nearest and dearest, spare a thought for love-on-ice couple Chris and Alexa Knierim.

The Knierims, competing in their first Olympics, already have a bronze medal from the team figure skating event.

For Scimeca Knierim, the Olympics are an opportunity to "glorify God, and my followers know that that's my objective and it makes me happy", she told People.

Despite not winning a medal in Pairs, they were an integral part of the USA winning the team bronze.

By 2014 they were engaged, and got married two years after.

"I gotta be in professional mode when we're doing the big tricks to make sure I'm not wandering because of her good looks", Chris Knierim said. Chris and I are just fortunate that we're not acting when we're out there.

While we're all celebrating our love today, the Olympians celebrated it last night in PyeongChang (They're 14 hours ahead of us on the east coast).

But just when you forget that there is romance in the air when it comes to this day when everyone cherishes their special partner or wishes they had one, Alexa got lost in thought for a moment during this interview, conducted in January at the national championships.
