Supreme Court to hear PIL on the rape of infant

An eight-month-old baby girl has been raped in the Indian capital New Delhi. When her mother, a domestic help, returned from work, she found the child covered in blood and crying, reports Indian news portal the NDTV.

After which she underwent a surgery that took a long three-hours for her injuries, later, she is sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Recently, an 8-month-old baby was brutally raped her by her 28-year-old cousin in Delhi.

'The worst has happened, ' tweeted Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, after visiting the girl in hospital. The baby is doing well, said the doctor. "In case they decide that the child should be shifted, they shall shift the child immediately to AIIMS under their personal supervision", the bench said. "So I have said that rape cases in which there is victim of 0-12 years of age, max punishment should be death penalty", Alakh Alok Srivastava, lawyer and petitioner told ANI.

India has strengthened its laws on sexual violence since the fatal gang rape of a Delhi student in 2012. He had gagged the child's mouth so that her cries were inaudible. "Please please pray for her", she tweeted.

She added, "I appeal to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to meet the girl to realise the gravity of the matter". The eight-month-old child that was raped is the baby of the country. The other girl remained with her aunt.

"According to the National Crime Records Bureau data for 2016, incidents of rape of children have increased by over 82 per cent compared to 2015", the newspaper said.

There has also been a change in attitudes - sexual attacks and rapes have become topics of living room conversations, and not something to be brushed under the carpet, our correspondent says.
