Max Holloway suffers injury, UFC 222 featherweight title bout in jeopardy

Max Holloway has never been forced to pull out of a fight before so it's understandable why he was so upset to finally make that call to drop out of his upcoming main event bout against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222. Among other bouts, the current UFC 222 fight card includes a heavyweight battle between Stefan Struve and Andrei Arlovski.

Holloway vs. Edgar was previously scheduled for the UFC featherweight title last December for UFC 218.

It has been an increasingly frustrating time for the company in getting Holloway and Edgar to fight. Holloway remained on the card and made his first successful defence of the belt by pummeling former champion Jose Aldo to a third-round stoppage defeat for the second straight fight. I know it sucks but hang in there. "They told me at the end of the day, it is what it is".

"Here we go again, definitely disappointed but fate wasn't having it", Edgar wrote.

While many felt as if UFC 203 might be the only opportunity Punk received to compete in MMA at the top level, he made mention Saturday night after the promotion announced plans for UFC 225 to take place in Chicago as a possible return.

With Max Holloway injured, the UFC will be scrambling to find a fight replacement for the pay-per-view that is roughly four weeks away.

Holloway insisted that he wanted to fight regardless of his leg injury and even joked that he asked to amputate his leg and fight as a handicap.
