Just ahead of Valentine's Day, Facebook is adding a few features to Messenger that'll appear for new couples, ranging from mostly innocuous tweaks to cloying changes that'll remind both of you that Facebook is always watching and trying to embed itself deeper into the fabric of your lives. When you open the chat, hearts will fall across your screen.
Spread the love: Your custom emoji (in the lower right hand corner) will be, so expressing your love will be fast and easy.
Personalized chat: one can personalize their chat and even set their own custom text color, emoji, and nickname.
There's one change here that actually nearly gets at being useful: whoever you're in a relationship with will now appear at the top of Messenger's Active tab. Lastly, in a bullet point labelled "Chatting with bae", Facebook noted that your significant other will be first to show up in the Messenger Active tab.
"In the spirit of feeling all the feelings, we thought it would be timely to share how people in the Messenger community express their love and adoration", Messenger said in a blogpost on Tuesday. Filters like the heart eye filter, falling candy heart effect, the Queen of Hearts filter has been added.
According to Facebook, "emojis are the new love language", with people sharing over 2 billion emojis daily on Messenger, with the kiss emoji and hearts for eyes emojis and heart emoji ranking as the most popular, in the top five.
These festive filters and effects are also available in Messenger video chat, the post said.
