Bill Haas survives fatal auto crash

PGA Golfer Bill Haas and actor Luke Wilson have been involved in a fatal crash in southern California. Golf Channel reported Wednesday that the driver was identified as 71-year-old Mark William Gibello, a Pacific Palisades resident with whom Haas and his family were staying with this week. Two others-one of them the 35-year-old Haas, the other a 50-year-old female from the other vehicle-were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A third vehicle driven by actor Luke Wilson was clipped by the Ferrari, Stoughton said.

Two people, including Haas were injured in the crash, according to Los Angeles-based KTLA.

A 50-year-old woman was injured when the Ferrari struck her BMW, which flipped on its side and landed against a parked vehicle, according to local ABC affiliate KABC. However, in a statement released through the PGA Tour, Haas' manager Allen Hobbs revealed that the former FedEx Cup victor has since been discharged from hospital. Luckily, he is expected to make a full recovery.

The statement added: "his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and hard time".

Fischer told KTLA that Haas, 35, was a passenger in a Ferrari involved in the crash.

World No. 67 Haas finished tied-26th in his last outing at the Phoenix Open at the beginning of February.

The accident took place just before 6.30pm (2.30am UK Time) near Riviera CC, the site of this week's Genesis Open where Haas was scheduled to play.
