The 85-year-old Williams stated on the project, "The present plan is that I'm writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he'll do brilliantly". The main theme that plays during the opening of every Star Wars film (when the opening crawl plays) is probably one of the most recognisable tunes in cinema. It's just that Williams has been with Star Wars since the beginning, to have him not involved felt like your favorite uncle was not coming to Christmas dinner.
Williams has written the complete scores for all eight of the main Star Wars films, winning an Oscar for the 1977 original and nominations for three of the other seven.
Variety has reported that one of the Star Wars franchise's most celebrated and beloved family members will write the theme for the next stand alone film in the SWU, Solo. Williams is attached to write a theme for the upcoming standalone film.
Powell will be writing the rest of the themes for the movie, which Williams says he's excited to hear. And Williams could not be happier. That'd be 2016's Rogue One, which had Michael Giacchino stepping in instead. "The untitled Han Solo movie will be scored in the style of the original Star Wars movies but retain Powell's distinctive voice", the official announcement read at the time. "John will complete the score".
The film will hit theaters on May 25, 2018. He also scored films in the Bourne franchise.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will tell the origins of fan-favorite Star Wars character, Han Solo.
