Sales start Tuesday, January 9 at 10:00 a.m. EST.
The upcoming sandstone variant of the OnePlus 5T smartphone has been spotted on a Chinese retailer JD's website, confirming the white color option that was teased on a couple of occasions. It's created to mimic the smooth matte feel of earlier OnePlus handsets. Now we know why: OnePlus was already planning on bringing a white model to the rest of the world, sans Star Wars branding. After the switch to all-metal unibody design with the OnePlus 3, Sandstone Black was released in form of a plastic snap-on case, and has been available in this form with every phone since then.
For those of you who have followed OnePlus since the beginning, you'll know that the Sandstone texture has been a mainstay of the company's portfolio since the original OnePlus One. The red-accented alert slider on the Star Wars Edition also makes a return.
The device combines the Sandstone texture, which has become synonymous with OnePlus, and the crisp, bright white hue reminiscent of the OnePlus One Silk White. The first involves applying a primer to safeguard the metal body, and the second uses a combination of spraying and baking each applied color temperature layer to ensure that the white tones remain balanced and natural. Finally, UV layer is used to refine the texture of the phone and ensure hardness and durability.
The OnePlus 5T will go on sale on Tuesday January 9 starting at $499 in the US; CA$659 in Canada; £449 in the United Kingdom; and €499 in the rest of Europe. The Sandstone White OnePlus 5T is identical to the maxed-out Midnight Black OnePlus 5T in terms of specs, sporting a 6-inch AMOLED screen, dual-lens camera, Snapdragon 835, 128 GB of storage, and 8 GB of RAM.
