Mad Catz brand returns from the dead

Included among them will be the RAT Air (technically it's R.A.T. AIR, but we won't be doing that), an updated version of this torturous-looking monstrosity that features wireless operation powered through a "wireless activation gaming surface" as well as a USB option for those who'd rather just run it on their desktop.

After speaking to long-time company spokesman Alex Verrey, CNET reports that most of Mad Catz's assets were acquired by a Chinese holding company who wanted to keep the brand alive and well.

Mad Catz Is Back in Business

Nearly a year since Mad Catz filed for bankruptcy and shut down, a new press release has revealed that the famed game hardware maker will be returning to the fray this year in the form of a new company called Mad Catz Global Limited. In fact the company has announced a trio of new hardware: the Rat Air mouse, the RGB-lit Strike 4 mechanical keyboard, and the Freq 4 gaming headset. After liquidation, the company officially close up shop, but apparently, some former employees on the manufacturing side (in China) made a decision to pick up the pieces and keep on trucking as Mad Catz Global Limited and will be based out of Kowloon, Hong Kong. In fact, Mad Catz became so desperate for a turnaround that they went so far as to co-publish Rock Band 4. The three products are part of the classic series of Mad Catz, showing that the company will start its revival by going back to its roots, while focusing on the quality of its products instead of the quantity of devices it offers.

In its second lease at life, Mad Catz will look to regain its title as one of the top manufacturers of gaming mice and controllers. The director continued to state that "we're already working on delivering products which we believe will enhance gamers' abilities and do justice to the Mad Catz name".

Mad Catz, the Mad Catz logo, R.A.T., S.T.R.I.K.E., F.R.E.Q. and G.L.I.D.E. are trademarks or registered trademarks of Mad Catz Global Limited. New Mad Catz peripherals will be on display at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which include new peripherals for PC users. "This is why the new products continue the look and character of the old range so closely, these guys have many years of experience with the Mad Catz product line".
