Detective Pikachu features a massive Amiibo for western release

For real, though, the core gameplay loop of Detective Pikachu is to gather clues from crime scenes, use them to develop a lead and continue to pursue justice in the name of Pokemon kind. Still, consider our interest piqued - an adventure game featuring an English-speaking Pikachu is too weird to pass up.

Detective Pikachu comes out on March 23, 2018, for the 3DS.

There was a bit more news that should get players excited, as the game will launch with a new amiibo figure.

The game will transform you into a detective named Tim Goodman and your partner is none other than Pikachu. Tim has come to Ryme City in search of his father, Harry Goodman. Discovering how Tim's father disappeared is the main part of the story but you'll be able to investigate various mysteries along the way. You'll have to put your detective skills to the test to foil the mastermind behind the disturbances in Ryme City.

Detective Pikachu was originally released in Japan in 2016, but this new version of the game will be greatly expanded with new locations to explore and new cases to solve. This extra-large amiibo can unlock cutscenes if tapped in the Detective Pikachu game, revealing a combination of hilarious content that might also provide a hint. When used, it will allow players to view all Pika Prompts - short video clips - from completed chapters and those which they missed finding earlier.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition will be making its way onto North American shelves on January 26, and will set you back $159.99.

The Nintendo news continues after the little event yesterday. The corresponding amiibo arrives the same day, for $29.99 or the regional equivalent.
