Messing then called out E! for the way it treated Catt Sadler, longtime host of the entertainment channel's "E!"
Debra Messing used her red-carpet interview on E! to side with Catt Sadler, the former E! host who left the network in December because she said her male colleague, Jason Kennedy, was paid twice as much. "News" host quit after 12 years revealing that her male co-host had been making "close to double [her] salary for the past several years". "I miss Catt Sadler, and so we stand with her", Messing said. Women and men deserve equal payment across industries, and major applause and props to Debra for standing up for what is right-even in the face of awkwardness. "We thought you would be for pay equality and say #imwithcattsad", Schumer posted on her Instagram account a few hours before the awards show kicked off.
"I'm wearing black to honor all of the fearless whistleblowers who came forward to share their stories of assault", said Messing during the live interview with Giuliana Rancic on E!.
While looking at Rancic directly, she explained that the actresses collectively want people to start having the conversation that "women are just as valuable as men".
The actress spoke to host Giuliana Rancic and expressed her dismay at the network's inability to fairly compensate its female employees.
Earlier Sunday, Messing tweeted her support for Sadler, writing, "We stand with YOU". "My team and I asked for what I know I deserve and were denied repeatedly".
It should be mentioned that while she was tonight's host of the E! red carpet, Giuliana was in immediate agreement with Messing's bold on-air statement, saying, "We have an wonderful platform here".
