Airtel, Idea stocks bleed after Reliance Jio unveils Republic Day Offer

As part of Jio's Republic Day offer, all prepaid recharge plans now offering 1 GB per day data will be enhanced to 1.5 GB per day data. The Jio Republic Day offer has no change in validity period of 28, 70, 84 and 91 days. The Airtel plan of Rs. 199 offers 1.4GB of data and also comes with unlimited voicde calls, be it local, STD or roaming and 100 free SMS per day. Airtel, on the other hand, also has a similar plan priced at Rs 448. Jio has also come up with a new Rs.98 plan with a validity of 28 days. However, with the Jio Republic Day Offer 2018, customers will get 50 percent more data as the daily high-speed data cap will be raised to 1.5GB per day. This is a monthly plan of Airtel that offers 2.5GB data per day. Now the company is set to the plans as a part of a Republic Day 2018 offer. If we compare, Jio Rs 448 plan has a clear victor on their hand with 11.2GB more data than Airtel's. Airtel has revised three prepaid plans - Airtel Plan 199, Airtel Plan 448 & Airtel Plan 509. Rs 349 is one of them, which gives users 1GB data per day for 70 days along with unlimited calling and SMS perks as the norm. With this offer, users will be entitled to 1.5GB of 4G data per day with a validity of 28 days, making a grand total of 42 GB of 4G data.

Rs 449: With slightly higher tariff here, users get 1GB data per day for 91 days on a regular day.

Rs 198 and Rs 398 prepaid packs: have been redone to offer a sum of 56GB amd 140GB data individually. Now it has 14 days validity, but after 26th it will offer 28 days. Now in Airtel 399 plan users will get 84GB data which is 14GB extra.

Clearly, if we look at the plans, Airtel is offering a tough fight to Jio.

Rs 399: Under this plan, users now get 1GB data per day for 84 days. This pretty much leaves the Rs. 299 plan redundant as subscribers will be able to get the same benefits (2GB per day for 28 days) at Rs. 198.

The tariff of Rs 2.7 per GB data is about 99 per cent lower compared to Rs 249-259 per GB charged by established big operators till August 2016 - before commercial launch of Jio services.
