SNL had some fun with the news that Mr Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI as part of the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
This week's SNL cold open had a lot of news and holiday cheer to cram into one brief sketch, and they met the challenge.
First to arrive is Billy Bush, the Access Hollywood host who was sacked after hot mic audio tapes revealed he engaged in a lewd conversation with Trump that involved him bragging about "grabbing" women by their privates and kissing them without warning. "It's time to come clean for the good of the country", Day implored him, a sentence Baldwin's Trump had trouble understanding.
Baldwin's Trump refused and instead asked her to put together a duffle bag for him containing $5 million dollars, his passport, a fake moustache and a bucket of chicken.
Three guests then visited. "Can you believe I got fired just for listening to you?"
"Before all this, I had a great life, Donald", the SNL Flynn says. Moffat asked. Baldwin wished him the best and Moffat made a subtle dig at recently fired Today host Matt Lauer: "I'm looking pretty good in the NBC news division right about now".
As many fans predicted, the opening monolog revolved around the pronunciation of host Saoirse Ronan's unusual name. "And out of money", Moffat as Bush said. At first, though, Trump think Steve Bannon is under the cloak. However, it turns out to be McKinnon's Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) is delighted as she talks about Trump's demise and says "lock him up!"
Then, the "ghost" of "Vladimir Putin" (Beck Bennett) appears, and finally, the flawless "ghost" comes to say "Lock him up!"
