One of the struck people was in critical condition while the other four were stable, Lee Jones, a New York Police Department spokesman, said.
One person was killed and five others injured in a hit and run accident in Queens early Sunday. According to the NYPD, the crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. after a stabbing at a hookah bar on Liberty Avenue in South Ozone Park.
A New York City detective said the incident wasn't terror-related.
A knife fight broke out at a hookah bar in Queens ahead of the attack, the New York Daily News reported citing police and a witness. "The auto was going really fast, at least 50 miles per hour on the sidewalk", Rogers said. "The bodies went flying".
He said the driver was "going after someone" and witnessed a girl holding a man back. "No, no, ' when this auto just comes from nowhere and hits the whole group", Rogers told the paper.
They say it started with the driver of a sedan getting out of his vehicle and stabbing two people in the chest.
The injured were taken to an area hospital. He pleaded not guilty last week to terrorism charges.
