Even YouTube is launching its own Snapchat 'Stories' clone

In an attempt to give video creators more ways to express themselves and engage with fans, YouTube has unveiled its own take on Snapchat Stories and Instagram Stories, where you can capture photos or videos, then decorate them with text, art, filters, and more, and broadcast them to followers via a stitched-together reel that'll play out like a story to viewers.

Increase your reach: We've seen creators successfully cross-promote other channels and creators they love through Community, such as Anwar, Hannah, Lele helping drive traffic to Rudy's first music video launch. Creators will be able to make short videos with duration extending up to 30 seconds.

YouTube presents very different reasons for the introduction of this feature from the reasons Instagram and Snapchat creators gave at the time of stories feature launch.

Moreover, as Stories disappeared after 24 hours, Reels does not have any expiry date or time. Community is created to make YouTube more social, and reduce the need for creators to turn to other social networks to communicate with fans.

YouTube is also adding a Snapchat-like post format called "Reels" for quickly posting videos. Just like we did with Community, we'll be experimenting with a beta version of Reels to learn and improve the product before expanding to more creators.

Reels will appear on the Community tab of a creator's YouTube page. Youtube's new feature is expected to roll out soon for a beta test to a handful of YouTube creators. The company also announced that it's opening Youtube's "community" tab to all creators with at least 10,000 subscribers.

According to TechCrunch, Reels will be given their own tab in the YouTube mobile app. People want to share content without having to curate, edit and publish a traditional YouTube video. As to the notifications about new Community posts, Livne said that YouTube made sure these won't be annoying to fans by letting them receive notifications for groups of Community posts instead of individual posts. Notifications are also optimized so that users will not be spammed with every update.
