Vermont unemployment in October steady at 2.9 percent

OH added 4,300 jobs in October as the state's unemployment rate fell to 5.1% from 5.3% in September.

Job losses were reported in manufacturing (100); financial activities (300); trade, transportation and utilities (500); professional and business services (500); and educational and health services (600).

Total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 1.1 percent from October 2016, while jobs in the United States were up 1.4 percent.

State and local unemployment rates are at their lowest levels in almost two decades. "Our workforce-development programs continue to prioritize closing skills gaps and connecting all citizens of the Commonwealth to prosperous career pathways", Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Rosalin Acosta said. The unemployment rate in Grand Island edged up a tenth of a percent to 2.4% last month. That's the lowest Lincoln rate since 2000, according to the Labor Department.

The agency says the number of unemployed residents dropped by more than 5,000 since a year ago, while the number of employed residents rose over the same period by almost 8,000. Breaking down the numbers, the private sector added 4,300 jobs while government jobs declined by 2,900.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate reached a 10-year low in October, according to new data released Friday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.
