The suspected gunman who is believed to have killed a Texas state trooper on Thanksgiving Day was captured in Waller County.
Police say Dabrett Black, 32, fatally shot Trooper Damon Allen during a stop near Fairfield on Thursday before fleeing.
He had already spoken to the driver and was returning to his patrol vehicle when the man exited his auto and opened fire with a rifle. Allen died at the scene.
Waller County is located northwest of Houston. He was found between Prairie View and Hempstead in his Chevy Malibu, reports state. Those charges are from Smith County where Tyler is.
Lonny Haschel, a public information officer with the Texas Highway Patrol, says,"It takes time for the Texas Rangers, the investigators to come in and analyze every bit of physical evidence at the scene". He is survived by his wife and three children.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said on Twitter that the shooting occurred before 4 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 45 south of Fairfield, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Dallas.
At about 8 p.m., authorities said they were chasing Black and had engaged with him. Deputies returned fire and the man, later identified as Rocky Miles West, 26, of Wimberley, retreated into a wooded area, officials said.
A report by KBTX, citing police scanner traffic, said two women may have been in the suspect's auto when the incident happened.
Hays County Sherrif's Deputy Benjamin Gieselman, 28, suffered injuries to his legs and upper body.
Black has a previous criminal history that includes evading arrest and violence toward law enforcement, authorities say. He is now being treated in an Austin area hospital. The group gifted the dog to the Waller County sheriff's office earlier this year.
