Royals' Eric Hosmer named American League's 2017 Louisville Silver Slugger Award victor

Seattle Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz has been selected to the 2017 American League Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger team. The outfielder's home runs set a franchise record and tied for the seventh-most homers recorded by a leadoff hitter in Major League Baseball history. He also hit 24 homers, had 81 RBIs and stole 32 bases in the regular season to lead the Astros to the AL West title. In the AL this season, he ranked first in infield hits, tied for second in runs (with Springer), was third in on-base percentage, third in stolen bases, third in OPS, fifth in total bases and sixth in slugging.

Cruz led the Mariners in games, runs, home runs, RBIs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging, OPS and extra-base hits.

Posey hit.320 with a.400 on-base percentage and.462 slugging percentage.

Bob Forsch (1980, 1987) and Jason Marquis (2005) are the only previous Cardinals pitchers to win a Silver Slugger Award. He is one of 10 in club history with multiple 100-RBI seasons. The only other Giant to be awarded with as many Silver Sluggers is Barry Bonds, he had nine in San Francisco, 12 total for his career.

November 3: Claimed SS Zach Vincej off waivers from Cincinnati.

Justin Upton, who last week agreed to a five-year deal to stay with the Angels, won his third Silver Slugger award on Thursday, while Mike Trout came up empty for the first time in his career.
