While the headphone jack on smartphones isn't an endangered species just yet, it's clearly falling out of favor - and that's bound to make you nervous if you don't want to live the dongle lifestyle. Another change buyers might see with the OnePlus 5T is a bigger battery, however the details about the same are not yet known. With the inclusion of the headphone jack, customers can use a larger variety of headphones, including audiophile-level elite models. Pretty much every major phone company is ditching the headphone jack in the name of thinness, and while OnePlus isn't committing to keep it around forever, it is intentionally stirring things up when it may well choose to drop the headphone jack in the not-too-distant future. Remember how Google touted the original Pixel phone line's headphone jacks, only to take them away for the Pixel 2? Keeping the headphone jack allows our users to continue to take full advantage of the excellent range of audio choices on the market.
Are you looking forward to the OnePlus 5T?
Since the OnePlus 5 launch this June, there have been rumors about the smartphone maker's next flagship device.
The ever-reliable tech leaker Evan Blass from Venture Beat posted the leaked render of the OnePlus 5T. Retailers in the USA are said to not have any OnePlus 5 variants available, while the OnePlus 5 gold variant is the only one remaining in the United Kingdom markets. In the build-up to this, CEO, Pete Lau, wrote on the OnePlus forums explaining his stance on the headphone jack and its future, stating that "for the time being", the company will be sticking with it. But it seems, the China-based giant is still not ready to give up on the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. This is one of those times when we respectfully disagree on what it means to be courageous. The processor will be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 one, given there's no 836 coming this year. The camera module will also come an impressive 20MP lens for the front and rear. OnePlus 5T will likely sport a more expensive price tag, and we saw this trend with the OnePlus 3T as well.
