A former business partner of Michael Flynn is a subject of special counsel's Robert Mueller's probe, NBC News reported Wednesday.
Analysts say in Trump's worst-case scenario, Flynn stopped talking because he's cut a deal to give Mueller incriminating information against someone in exchange for lighter charges.
Lawyers can pull out of information-sharing arrangements for a variety of reasons, including concerns of potential conflicts of interest that may arise at a later date.
Attorneys for the White House and Flynn did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CNBC.
According to sources familiar with the Mueller investigation, prosecutors are interested in Kian's ties with Inovo BV and other lobbying efforts performed by The Flynn Intel Group on behalf of foreign governments that may have yet to be disclosed.
Months after first signing on, the group registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, saying that its work "could be construed to have principally benefitted the Republic of Turkey".
Mueller's rapidly progressing probe has already landed indictments against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick Gates.
"Can you believe that the disrespect for our Country, our Flag, our Anthem continues without penalty to the players", he said, shortly after the New York Times reported former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn could be moving to cooperate with an investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation.
Michael Flynn was the US President's National Security Advisor, before he resigned in Febuary after reports of the extent of his connections with a Russian ambassador were exposed in the press.
