Jose Mourinho: 'Difficult to manage Paul Pogba injury'

"I want to play Fellaini earlier, I want to play [Marouane] Fellaini with Pogba but then I don't know if Pogba is happy to be on the pitch under the fatigue line, or if the fatigue line has been reached".

He also praised Brighton, telling the BBC: "I want to be honest and give them (Brighton) what they deserve, for me probably they deserve more than the result they got".

"[They are] ninth in the table, good team, hard to beat, don't concede many goals, a mixture of physicality, aggression with also quality and creativity", Mourninho said.

"I keep saying to defend well is very important".

The Frenchman is expected to start again when Manchester United host Brighton at Old Trafford today in the Premier League.

The Portuguese boss was asked about any contract talks regarding the Belgian, and he told reporters at his news conference at Carrington on Friday: "It is a discussion between the player and the board".

"I brought to the pitch an experienced player like [Nemanja] Matic and thought it couldn't affect the game".

Rio Ferdinand accused Manchester United of "lacking professionalism" as they slumped to a 1-0 loss at Basel in the Champions League.

Marcus [Rashford] and [Anthony] Martial are without the tactical knowledge that an older player has to close the spaces in between the full-back and the number six, so with Paul we were losing control a bit. I think [Mourinho and I] did not understand each other too much.

"They gave us probably the hardest match we've had this season".

The end product has returned for Martial who seemed to struggle getting on the scoreboard last season amid some personal problems.

"Sometimes they produce a lot, and we have lots of chances and we don't score enough".
