Harry Potter AR game is coming from the makers of 'Pokémon Go'

Niantic Labs has confirmed the new title will be called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and will be developed in conjunction with Warner Bros.

Pokemon Go has been an enormous hit for Niantic Labs.

Instead of using inspiration from the popular anime series Pokemon, the creators are targeting another cultural icon with a big fan base - Harry Potter.

It's hard to exaggerate the success of Pokémon Go, Niantic's augmented reality game.

No specifics on when the game will drop, additional details will be announced in 2018.

HBO also happens to be owned by Time Warner, the same parent company that owns Warner Bros., which produced the Harry Potter films. Players will move through their physical world to collect power-ups and defend locations (presumably, similar to Pokémon Go's gym system).

Wizards Unite will reveal that magic is all around us, and allow players to be a part of Harry Potter's rich world, through Niantic's AR + real-world mobile game platform and the franchise expertise of WB Games San Francisco's development and publishing team. "Interactive and its new sub brand Portkey Games". The working of the game is same as of Pokemon Go.

HBO now has the streaming rights for the Harry Potter universe film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and has recently streamed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but not at the same time.

"I expect the Harry Potter augmented reality experiences will be more robust and complex than they were in Pokemon Go, which should make the game more dynamic and the experience more engaging", Mr Harding-Rolls predicted.
