Eagles' Zach Ertz out with hamstring injury; Jay Ajayi active

Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is out for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, a surprising absence after there was confidence on Friday that the team's leading receiver would play after injuring his hamstring in Thursday's practice.

Carson Wentz will not have his favorite target versus the 'No Fly Zone'.

The tight end planned to play but after struggling in warmups will sit out Sunday. It's unclear whether or not he will see touches on the majority of those snaps, but head coach Doug Pederson stated Ajayi will be working with a "very limited" set of plays. Ertz figures to return after the Eagles' Week 10 bye, at which point Burton would resume third-string tight end duties behind Ertz and blocker Brent Celek.

Ajayi was traded from the Dolphins to the Eagles on Tuesday in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

It has been a horribly disappointing year for the 24-year-old, who made the Pro Bowl last season after racking up 1,272 yards and eight scores on the ground.

In seven games with the Dolphins this season, Ajayi rushed for 465 yards without a touchdown and averaged just 3.4 yards per carry.

"He's a violent runner. I think he's got tremendous vision and can hit the hole extremely fast, and in the open field has the speed to run away from defenders".
