Disney Confirms New

The new trilogy does not however have a release date yet. The power of its characters and brands are the reason many investors stick with the company despite its challenges.

Lucasfilm announced on Thursday that Johnson would helm a new Star Wars trilogy that would be "separate from the episodic Skywalker saga".

Total revenue from Disney's cable business, the largest unit which includes ESPN and the Disney Channel, fell marginally to $3.95 billion in the fourth quarter, missing the $4.06 billion consensus of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

In a joint statement, Johnson and Bergman said: "We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi".

"We can't wait to continue with this new series of films". This new series will be exclusive to Disney's upcoming streaming service. "He's a creative force, and watching him craft 'The Last Jedi" from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi", the eighth episode in the Skywalker franchise, is to open in USA theaters on December 15.

While we've had eight Star Wars movies, various video games and quite a few cartoon series, this will be the universe's first foray into live action television. The next chapter of the new trilogy, The Last Jedi, arrives this December, and J.J. Abrams is beginning pre-production on the conclusion for 2019.

The Last Jedi, which follows on from 2015's hit film The Force Awakens and is expected to focus on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), will be in theatres in Singapore on Dec 14. In regards to Star Wars, the divisive prequels remain a cautionary tale of being careful what you wish for, providing audiences with more of the property they love, but in an (arguably) unfulfilling way.
