There's also a new carbon fiber "halo" hood that was developed specifically for the cooling of the new engine version sporting the highest output ever for a street-legal Chevrolet production vehicle.
"I've never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there's never been one like this before", Mark Reuss, GM's executive vice president of product development, purchasing and supply chain, said in the release.
The ZR1's LT5 6.2L supercharged V8 is the most powerful production Chevy engine yet, complete with 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft. of torque.
According to reports, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 will be powered by a new LT5 supercharged engine. The supercar also comes equipped with Chevy's first dual fuel direct injection system with supplemental port injection. This is also thanks to an eight speed automatic gearbox, which can also be manually shifted via paddles on the back of the steering wheel.
In the meantime, the new ZR1 is unlikely to be converted to right-hand drive and offered in Australia. GM says the new ZR1 has four new radiators and 13 heat exchangers in total.
The engine sits underneath what Chevrolet calls a "halo hood" which features a carbon fibre two-piece bonnet bulge. The aero packages feature stanchion-mounted wings. Top speed, interestingly enough, is over 210 miles per hour - but it's not just the engine that makes that happen. The second aero package unsurprisingly includes a large two-way adjustable rear wing, which produces 60 percent more downforce than a Z06 with the optional performance pack. The Low Wing comes as standard, and Chevrolet says it's the design you want if top speed is your primary goal. The most notable changes can be seen on the exterior, as the front of the vehicle sports larger inlets for added cooling while the rear has the option of a high rise spoiler for a substantial increase in downforce. You also get special chassis tuning, Magnetic Ride Control and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Both wings are bolted directly to the chassis just like on a C7.R race auto, for strength and stability.
If you like your 'Vettes in aggressive colors, Chevy rolled out a "Sebring Orange Design Package", which pretty much takes orange to 11.
The ZR1's leather seats have available microfiber inserts.
After being leaked ahead of its scheduled debut by Car & Driver last week, Chevrolet has officially revealed their fastest, most powerful Corvette to date, the 2019 ZR1.
