Troy spoils LSU homecoming with upset win

The loss joins the ranks of the infamous loss by LSU to Alabama-Birmingham, 13-10, on September 23, 2000, in the first season of former coach Nick Saban, but the Tigers were not ranked for that game and had gone through eight losing seasons over the previous 11 years before that season.

The Ed Orgeron era at LSU is likely to be short-lived following one of the most shocking losses in recent memory on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

It marked Troy's second win over a ranked opponent since the school moved to the FBS in 2001.

Troy 7, LSU 0 (Q1, 9:04): An 8-play, 42-yard drive fizzles for the Tigers when they fail to convert a 4th-and-3 at the Troy 33.

And Troy never trailed.

Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers finished 16-of-28 passing for 157 yards, but the running of Jordan Chunn kept the Trojan offense moving. "We'll find out who the leaders are, find out who the competitors are, and the only way I know how to do it is you go back to work". We've got to do some soul searching. LSU fumbled on its first play, turned the ball over on downs on its second possession, punted twice and missed a field goal in the first half. "I've got to do my best job right now".

NO. 13 AUBURN 49, NO. 24 MISSISSIPPI STATE 10: Jarrett Stidham passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns, and Kerryon Johnson ran for three scores for Auburn as it defeated visiting Mississippi State in an SEC game. LSU inside linebacker Devin White had just recovered a Troy fumble at the Troy 4-yard line to set up the touchdown. After the game, Troy's Twitter account did not pull any punches. Sirk rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries in the first half but was held to 12 yards on six carries in the second. Etling had not thrown an interception this season until the final seconds when LSU was desperately driving for the tying field goal.

"Two different times in this venue here, 2004 and 2008 we had the opportunity to win the game". LSU was a 20.5-point favorite against the Trojans, according to the Westgate Superbook, but the Tigers lacked initiative from the opening kick, fell behind by double digits before halftime and then neither possessed the resolve nor executed well enough to dig themselves out of a 17-point hole in the fourth quarter. Silvers completed a 7-yard pass to Deondre Douglas on third-and-4 at the LSU 24 for a first down. The kick capped an 11-play 60-yard drive for the Trojans.

Three plays and two completions later, Etling lofted a 34-yard touchdown to receiver Russell Gage and another 20-yard strike to Moreau late in the fourth quarter.

And LSU's loss was against Troy, a Sun Belt Conference team. Two plays later, it fumbled a snap to give it back.

Alex Hornibrook passed for 197 yards and a touchdown, settling down after two interceptions in the first half. Troy would eventually stretch the lead to 24-7 on seven-yard touchdown run by Josh Anderson. Brossette was stripped by safety Cedarious Rookard and fellow defensive back Kris Weatherspoon recovered at the Tigers 30. Moreau's two-touchdown game was his first career multi-score outing at LSU. "Darrel Williams should've got it". The biggest thing was understand we had a whistle start.
