Oliver Giroud beats SA's Oscarine Masuluke to Federation Internationale de Football Association goal of the year

Olivier Giroud of Arsenal was awarded the FIFA Puskas Award for goal of the year at the 2017 The Best ceremony in London, England.

Giroud's remarkable goal saw him meet Alexis Sanchez's cross with a remarkable and audacious volley that looped over his head and beat Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey via the crossbar.

The Baroka FC goalkeeper was up against Giroud‚ who scored a scorpion kick in an English Premiership match against Crystal Palace‚ and Deyna Castellanos of Venezuela who scored from the halfway line.

The France worldwide saw off competition from Venezuela women's global Deyna Castellanos and Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke with his stunning effort at Emirates Stadium on January 1.

Giroud, 31, won the award at a star-studded bash hosted by A-lister Idris Elba at the London Palladium.

"Thank you very much". I'm delighted to receive the trophy in front of all these legends.

In missing out on the FIFA Puskas award, Masuluke completed an unfortunate double, with his effort having been nominated for the 2016-17 PSL Goal of the Season award, only for Kaizer Chiefs wideman Siphiwe Tshabalala, who marked his 300th appearance for Kaizer Chiefs with a delightful lob against SuperSport United, to win the prize. Now l'd just like to thank the people who voted for me. I'd like to thank the other nominees who scored fantastic goals too.

"Obviously, I would like to thank my team-mates - without them I could not score this goal - and my family".
