Nurse Sings To Elderly Woman Dying Of Cancer, Holds Her Hand

Before her release, Margaret's friend recorded a video of VUMC nurse Olivia Nuefelder singing her favorite song "Dancing In The Sky" by Dani and Lizzy. "God bless you Olivia!"

At one point, the nurse is seen wiping her own tears as both of them become visibly emotional, and tells Smith to smile and sing along to the chorus.

"Miss Marg has touched my heart in such an indescribable way".

Nuefelder said Friday in an phone interview with The Washington Post that doctors told the dying patient last week that she was too ill to receive the liver transplant that she had been waiting for. She had been suffering from liver cancer for about a year. (I hope you all share this so it can find its way back to nurse Olivia in Vanderbilt)'.

"I'll bet it's so nice up in heaven since you arrived". "And I hope you're singing in the angel's choir". "My thoughts and prayers are forever with this awesome family", Olivia wrote in a Facebook post.

Speaking to the news organisation afterwards, Ms Neufelder said: 'There was nearly a sense of peace knowing that it was her favorite song and she did tell me it's the song she wants played at her funeral.

Smith died Wednesday in the Cookeville nursing home.

'I recently lost my grandmother and went through a similar experience and I was singing to her as she passed too'.

"Margaret really has helped me more than she knows".

"It was really hard", she said.

A GoFundMe page was started to help the family pay for Smith's medical expenses.

"Your dedication to your patients is beyond any that I have seen", Megan Smith wrote in a message directed toward Neufelder.
