National Football League suspends Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch one game for unsportsmanlike conduct

First, the Oakland Raiders running back ran out on the field during a scuffle after a late hit to calm down both sides, but he ended up shoving an official in the process. Raiders offensive linemen Kelechi Osemele and Donald Penn immediately confronted Peters, and Lynch sprinted onto the field from the bench to join the fray.

The replay also clearly showed why Lynch was ejected.

"You made deliberate physical contact with one of our game officials as he was defusing an active confrontation between players", NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan said in a letter to Lynch informing him of his sanction.

The referee was diffusing an active confrontation in which Lynch was not a participant.

If the suspension stands, Lynch would miss the Raiders' game October 29 at Buffalo. The same thing Chris Long did for his brother. The suspension is without pay and would cost Lynch just under $79,412, or one-seventeenth of his 2017 salary of $1.35 million. Thrash reduced the league's five-game suspension of Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict, imposed following an illegal hit during the preseason, to three games. Speaking on the pressure that their performances had put on them, QB Derek Carr, who was understandably relieved, said post-game: "Now we have a lot of work to do to be better, but to come out on the other side of it, I just thank God, man, to be honest, because it was hard". That will be up to the Raiders to address if they choose. The fine for unnecessarily entering a fight area with active involvement is $6,076; it's $3,037 for unnecessarily entering a fight area without active involvement. The Raiders coaching staff will likely lean on running backs Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington to help fill the void left by Lynch's absence in the backfield.

Although Oakland went on to win the game, it was without its leading rusher for the majority of it.

Lynch has rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns in seven games.
