Man City's Benjamin Mendy ruptures anterior cruciate ligament

Steve Nicol says Pep Guardiola and Man City will need to start tinkering after Benjamin Mendy suffered a torn ACL.

City didn't give a likely timeframe for Mendy's absence.

Manchester City held off Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 to win their second straight game to open Group F.

Manchester City left back Benjamin Mendy has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, likely keeping the France worldwide out for most of the season in his first year in English soccer.

But now, after hearing that he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, he's maintained his playful online persona and made fun of his strife.

A serious problem was suspected when the France left-back suffered the injury during the first half of last weekend's 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

A club statement said: "Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery".

To make matters much worse, on Friday morning, news emerged that Sergio Aguero had been in a auto accident in Holland and had suffered a fractured rib in the collision.

"Bad news guys, I will not join the team a few months ago after I was cut in the front cruciate ligament, but I will be back soon and hopefully stronger", the Frenchman said on his official Twitter site.

Mendy's injury is a major setback for City as it comes just before their trip to Chelsea on Saturday and the prospect of losing the 23-year old for the rest of the season severely weakens Guardiola's strategy as the left-back was a key part of his summer squad rebuild.
