Gator fans play tribute to favorite son Tom Petty at game

Orgeron got involved with the offense during the 24-21 loss to Troy and wanted to simplify Canada's scheme by reducing pre-snap motions.

LSU stayed with their game plan in the second half.

The Tigers came out of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium with a 17-16 victory over Florida. At one point in the third quarter, LSU was 6-of-10 on third-down conversions. Pineiro's extra point was good, 17-10. "These guys will be coming in here crazed, nuts, ready to go to prove all the naysayers or whatever you want to do, but that's why you play".

It's a deflating loss for the Gators, their first of the season in SEC play. They also dropped to 9-2 in one-possession games under McElwain.

This SEC rivalry has intensified the past two seasons. The game was initially scheduled to be played in Gainesville, but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.

I don't think too many Florida fans would complain if this became a tradition.

LSU would get revenge this year, when it needed it most. For LSU, for Orgeron and for Tigers fans everywhere.

LSU responded on the next drive as Connor Culp split the uprights for a 38-yard field goal with 25 seconds left in the half.

"At no time was it the intentions of Tiger Band to disrespect or interrupt a tribute of someone we consider a musical icon and apologize to anyone thinking this was the case", the band's statement said. Russell Gage scored LSU's first touchdown and led LSU with 52 of the team's 216 rushing yards. LSU led 7-3 with 4:01 left in the first half.

Florida, which rushed for 194 yards and passed for 108, never seemed to pose a big-play threat against the Tigers' defense. But the Gators (3-2, 1-1) answered, getting the first of consecutive TD runs by Lamical Perine. "We didn't hold point", McElwain said.

Alleva "wanted to know what was going on, what we could do better", said Orgeron, who's in his first season after serving as interim coach in 2016.

The Tigers are doing the talking this year.

. I thought both teams played hard. "This shows what kind of team we can be". Though ultimately, it wasn't enough late in the game when the Gators had to pass.

And wide receiver Derrick Dillon was ejected from the game in the opening period for a targeting block.

LSU hosts Auburn next Saturday at Tiger Stadium.
