Harry was performing "Kiwi" for CBS' "We Can Survive" Concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night when he ran to the edge of the stage and dropped down on his knees to hype up the fans.
The former One Direction singer was performing at We Can Survive, an all-star cancer benefit also featuring Lorde, Khalid, Sam Smith, Pink, Kesha, Sam Hunt, Macklemore, and Alessia Cara. Styles was kneeled down in front of the stage as usually they do while performing, when the overzealous fan reached out and grabbed his crotch.
The 23-year-old, who had been beckoning for the crowd to "come on" seconds before, quickly batted away the hands and stepped back.
"I don't like Harry Styles but y'all touching his crotch isn't ok", one fan commented.
As the footage when viral and '#RespectHarr'y started trending, fans took to Twitter to speak out against sexual assault in all of its forms, and what they saw as "disgusting and disrespectful". Harry is not an object, he is a human, you should always remember that. "Respect him and don't forget this: "Treat people with kindness" #RespectHarry", the user wrote.
Harry Styles has enjoyed monumental success as a solo artist since One Direction went on hiatus at the end of 2015.
