UGA practice report: Notre Dame prep work continues

Coming into this game, Las Vegas has the Fighting Irish as a -4 point favorite to defend their home turf and come away with a victory. The two programs have played each other only one time in their history. But he gets to have them protecting him. In fact, the defense did more than their share.

Eason went down midway through the first quarter of the Appalachian State victory. By that time, the match-up had clearly been decided. Defensively, Georgia was able to hold App State to just 284 total yards, including 148 passing yards. There were some negatives, as Georgia committed two turnovers and lost the time of possession battle to the Mountaineers by nearly two minutes.

Georgia's offense has the added wrinkle of freshman Jake Fromm making his first start at quarterback. The greenhorn completed 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. They didn't let Lamb take over the game. The Bulldogs have two of the best running backs in the country in Sony Michel and Nick Chubb, but the offensive line is a work in progress.

Having more people to run through will have an effect on the running backs, including Michel. Both will be looking to impose their wills once again when they head into South Bend this weekend. He finished the game with 161 yards on 19 carries. Even still, the numbers speak for themselves. "It will really help establish Georgia and build the team's confidence with a good win and springboard from there".

We imagine that most Notre Dame fans don't agree. On the ground, Notre Dame had a 422-85 edge. I am very interested in them now, so after this visit, I will decide if I want to continue to look at them.

"You have to stop the run first", Martini said. " ... Each back is special and so each one has good traits, and it's just going in there and closing space on them".

-LB Te'Von Coney didn't start but had 1.5 tackles for loss, including one of three sacks for Notre Dame. But until the Fighting Irish win their next national title, the criticism will remain. Brandon Wimbush took the reigns and performed quite well. He later threw his first career touchdown pass. Wimbush rushed for 106 yards against the Owls. Adams saw his backup in Dexter Williams explode for 124 yards last week while Chubb was involved in a split backfield of his own. "I had been on some good teams, but never thought I'd be a part of an undefeated national championship team, so that was unusual".

"I'm glad, though, that Georgia and Notre Dame are finally getting back together on the football field". Well, that's not the case now.

-LB Nyles Morgan led the Irish in tackles with nine. He (Wimbush) is one of those guys who is going to make some plays. "Since I wasn't, it was suggested that we have a viewing party at a hotel in Athens for guys who can't make the game. He knows his role and we know our role".

Line setters have placed Notre Dame as a four point favorite and that surprises me a bit.

Payne says he's seen it about 14 times. Also, the defensive front looked improved for the Irish, so it will be interesting to see how they perform against an SEC running game. So this is really just more about creating a mindset and building on that mindset. "We're going to feature our running game, and somebody's going to come out on top".

The Bulldogs are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win.

Although this is only Brandon Wimbush's first season as the starter, he is a junior that has been around the team for two seasons playing behind and learning from Cleveland Browns starting quarterback DeShone Kizer. Georgia comes into this game 13-3 with the under in its last 16 games against a winning team and 7-3 in its last 10 non-conference contests.

In McGlinchey and senior guard Quenton Nelson, the Irish may boast the best left side in the nation.
