Two area schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools

For the first time, the U.S. Department of Education has named George A. McCall Elementary School a National Blue Ribbon School.

The high school, located at 1000 E. Victoria St.in Carson, is once again a National Blue Ribbon School.

Two U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Awards for 2017 went to campuses in the El Paso Independent School District.

. "You are visionaries, innovators and leaders", DeVos said in a statement.

"Congratulations to the school leaders, teachers, students and communities on this national recognition".

The Eugene Tighe Middle School was one of nine New Jersey schools the U.S. Department of Education named Blue Ribbon Schools on Thursday.

"Although today is a wonderful celebration which we will always remember, it is important to know that student success is acknowledged and rewarded every day at Skyland", Styles said.

The schools are Kindred Elementary in Kindred; Longfellow Elementary in Fargo; and Legacy Elementary in West Fargo.

"These schools show that excellence is possible regardless of the type of communities they serve", Superintendent of Public Instruction Steven R. Staples said in a release.

She says the five Iowa schools are among 342 nationwide which are chosen based on their performance on state tests and graduation rates.

Hoover is the second elementary school in North Mankato to receive the title, Monroe Elementary achieved it in 2015. Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year.

"And that really lends to being open minded, having the kids learn how to be open minded, which is one of the things we stress here at Handley School", Couillard said. Representatives from the winning schools will travel to Washington D.C.in November for an award ceremony.

"You have much to teach us".

Teachers have received training for Kagan Learning Structures and seek "self-improvement" through Professional Learning Communities, also known as PLCs, in order to get students engaged in their work.
